January Ramblings

My dear friends,

Generally this column, as the title indicates is just rambling. Some times there is a little
good information there but most of the time, it is just rambling. This rambling has some important stuff, please read all and carefully.

Over the years Good Shepherd has had several benefactors who willed money to the church. We have always appreciated the bequests and have used the money very carefully. In the strictest sense, we have been using this money to pay for an unbalanced budget for about the last ten years.

However, at the death of both Evie and Ross Haynes, Good Shepherd received a huge bequest. I am not putting the figure in here because many people read our newsletter. It is not a secret; just ask pastor or one of the council members. With this bequest there are some restrictions. In the will we are asked to use the money for education, specifically it was suggested that we use the money to construct a wing, a room or maybe a gym for Worthmore Academy. The will does not completely tie our hands, but it is the opinion of those who have read the will, including an attorney, that the money
should not be used for the general obligations of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

If you remember, at the Annual Meeting in Feb. 2011 a new committee was formed, The Education Committee, consisting of the pastor, the president and two elected member for a two year term. The elected members are Dave Schaaf and Tony Homan. At this time, this committee will be responsible for the distribution of any funds. All distributions
will be over seen by the congregation council. For safe keeping, the funds have been deposited in the church stock account.

The future of and the best way to use these funds will be a topic of the upcoming annual meeting on January 29, following the 10AM service.
